Trefeddian Hotel

'I cannot think of anywhere nicer to spend a week recharging batteries; the staff are wonderful, remembering us on each visit.' Praise this year from one of many repeat visitors to the Cave family's 'pleasing' traditional hotel on a bluff with glorious views across Cardigan Bay. Out of season, Trefeddian is popular with older visitors who enjoy the low rates, the sociable public areas (including an adult-only lounge and a library with a card table) and the traditional values (like the dress code for dinner - 'gentlemen are required to wear a jacket or tie' - which 'invokes a sense of style'). When school is out, the mood changes: children are warmly welcomed and have much to do. There is an indoor swimming pool (refurbished last year), a games room, a family-friendly lounge and sand dunes to explore. The bedrooms have clean lines, some with fitted pale wood furnishings. Children have a dedicated menu (taken at 5.15 pm). In the dining room, the English/French cooking of chef Tracy Sheen is much admired. Breakfast has 'real marmalade'. Wheelchair-users regularly praise the facilities. (Peter Rogers, and others)
  • We have been visiting over the last 40 years, and the standard has not changed. Now, with a party ranging from 80(me)to six, we find it a real joy. The swimming pool, snooker and childrensroom appeal to the grandchildren, while there is a quiet lounge to escape to for the adults. The bar lunch menu - delicious sandwiches and salads – makes you look forward to dinner. The menu changes daily, but always has one conservative and one more exciting main course. Service throughout is good. In the past I have found Reception inflexible; that has been remedied. Rooms are well-equipped and have glorious views from the front of the hotel. The Cave family put in a lot of effort, and it shows.

  • Our first impressions were of a nicely dated 30s, well-run, unostentatious establishment with staff who were happy to talk to you. The room had sea views. We felt immediately at home. Breakfast and dinner were good and speedily served Due to illness we unexpectedly had to cut our stay half way through our booking. The staff were marvellous. They simply asked my wife to pay for the time spent plus a few extras we had had and refused to apply additional charges. A hotel with heart and a soul.

  • If only all hotels were run as well as this. All staff are well trained. Help is on hand for guests with disabilities. There are many quiet corners with comfortable armchairs. Comfortable beds. first-class reading lights. Food of a high standard. The dining room runs like clockwork.

  • This excellent hotel has kept its freedom from piped music - a blessing. It has glorious views over Cardigan Bay and the golf course. It ran smoothly and all staff were friendly; many are local. Our room was comfortable and had plenty of storage space. Food and service are excellent. The Cave family create a homely atmosphere.

  • We visited the hotel for the first time this weekend, and thoughly enjoyed the stay. I found the service first rate. The chambermaids, waitresses and bar staff were efficient and curteous. A stunning location with excellent food and pleny of choice. Spotless accommodation with comfortable beds. The decor is tasteful rather that modern, but that adds to the classic charm of the place.
